This evaluation version of Wind River® General Purpose Platform, VxWorks Edition 3.6, is available in the following configurations:
General Purpose Platform
General Purpose Platform, VxWorks Edition, provides a solid foundation for a broad variety of devices, from aerospace and defense applications to networking and consumer electronics gear, robotics and industrial applications, precision medical instruments, and automobile navigation and telematics systems. The platform is ideally suited for devices requiring a highly scalable, hard real-time, deterministic run-time environment.
VxWorks Run-Time
General Purpose Platform is built on the industry-leading RTOS, VxWorks 6.6, and includes integrated networking and run-time technologies. The latest edition of VxWorks is backward compatible with earlier versions, allowing customers to leverage existing and legacy software assets. This evaluation also includes VxWorks Simulator (which allows use of the platform without having to connect to a target device), Wind River Compiler, and Wind River GNU GCC Compiler.
Wind River Workbench
This evaluation version of General Purpose Platform includes Wind River Workbench 3.0, our integrated, Eclipse-based development suite. Workbench offers broad capabilities that support the entire development life cycle, from hardware bring-up to platform and application development, enabling standardization on one common environment across the enterprise.

- Windows 2000 Professional with latest Service Pack installed
- Windows XP Professional with Service Pack 2 and all patches
Host Operating System Requirements
Windows Host
- Windows XP Professional (Service Pack 2) or Windows Vista (Businesss or Enterprise)
- Administrator rights
- Intel Pentium 4 processor minimum; 2GHz minimum
- 1GB RAM minimum
- 1.3GB disk space for a typical installation
- Local DVD-ROM drive or access to network for installation
- Current version of a standards-compliant browser
- TCP/IP must be installed on the host system, even if it is being used as a standalone PC with a serial connection to the target
- Network interface card for debugging over a network is recommended
- An active Internet connection is recommended during initial installation to access the Wind River Online Support website
Linux Host
- One of the following host operating systems:
- Red Hat Enterprise Linux Workstation 4 or Desktop with Workstation option 5
- SUSE Linux/openSUSE 10.2
